MUNDUS VINI Spring 2024 edition has designated the best wine producers in the world

The spring edition of the international wine competition MUNDUS VINI Grand International Wine Award, which took place last week in Germany, announces the results of its 34th edition. The six-day wine tasting attracted an impressive number of over 250 wine experts from 55 different countries to the heart of the Pfalz wine region. In total, at this tasting session, 7,430 samples were registered and 2,974 wines were awarded, of which 1,727 won gold medals.

 

The most successful producers in this year’s competition were R&A Pfaffl (Best producer in Austria), DGB (South Africa), Vinaria Purcari (Moldova), Anecoop (Spain) and Fantini Group (Italy). The wines from these five producers collected a total of 163 Silver, Gold and Grand Gold awards.

 

Although the podium did not bring surprise among the experts, the proof being the constant quality of their wines, this edition of the prestigious event brought Romanian wines into the spotlight, awarding a total of 71 medals, of which 46 gold medals and 25 silver medals, according to a press release from Wines of Romania.

The first three places were occupied by Italy with 639 awards in total (12 Grand Gold, 370 Gold, 257 Silver), the second place went to Spain, with 535 awards (7 Grand Gold, 302 Gold, 226 Silver), and third place Portugal with 352 awards.

 

Romanian wines were noticed by experts:

Regarding the participation of Romanian wines, among the 16 awarded wineries at the fair are Jidvei – with 6 gold and 5 silver medals, Girboiu Winery – with 9 gold medals and one silver, Recas Wineries – with 3 medals gold and 7 silver, Vintruvian Estates – with 5 gold medals and SERVE – with 3 gold medals, according to the source.

 

 

At the competition, the international expert in wines, Ms. Marinela Ardelean, judged as committee president, being for the 5th year in a row in this prestigious position, out of the 10 years since she has been part of the competition’s jury, the press release shows. According to the mentioned source, “These medals are a reason for joy for our entire industry and I am glad that the awarded producers will have an additional argument in the communication of their wines at future profile fairs such as Prowein, Vinitaly or RO-Wine. I wish that at the session from the summer of the MUNDUS VINI competition, let’s have more Romanian wines, especially since some producers, although they did not enter many wines in the competition, only received gold medals. After the 2 sessions of the competition, it is clear that we will exceed the total number of medals from 2023, when we had an honorable performance, but one that kept us in line with Austria, South Africa and the Czech Republic, still far from Georgia, France or Portugal”, said Marinela Ardelean, founder of the platform Wines of Romania.
