The Old Fashioned lets the whiskey lead. Dissolve a sugar cube with bitters and a little water, add bourbon over ice and stir gently before adding orange and cherry.
Ingredients
- 45 mlbourbonrye whiskey may be substituted
- 1 ×sugar cube
- 3 dashesAngostura bittersa few dashes; adjust to taste
- 3 dasheswatera few dashes to dissolve the sugar
- 1 ×orange peelorange slice is also traditional
- 1 ×cocktail cherry
How to make it
Place the sugar cube in a rocks glass, saturate it with Angostura bitters and add a few dashes of water.
Muddle until the sugar dissolves.
Fill the glass with ice, add the bourbon and stir gently.
Garnish with orange zest and a cocktail cherry.

Use a few dashes of water to dissolve the sugar fully before adding bourbon.
